The past winter season proved to be an exceptional one for Girls Varsity Squash (GVS), marked by resounding victories and memorable experiences. The team started the year strong with a big win against Portsmouth Abbey. Though they initially held low hopes, they managed to win 5-2 after many close and challenging matches. Additionally, GVS participated in NEPSACS and were positioned in Division D as the fourth seed. They swiftly defeated the third seed and won second place in the tournament. These achievements were a testament to the unwavering dedication and hard work exhibited by every member of the team during practice sessions.

During practices, the players typically focus on one type of shot for an entire week. They then conclude each practice with various fitness exercises. Although those exercises were often tiring, the coaches, Nick Johnson and Sandy Nash, made them fun and engaging. Laughter and camaraderie would fill the air during practices. Reflecting on her experience, Loanne Kim ’27 said, “My favorite aspect of practice was undoubtedly the short game and the fitness exercise involving cards.” Despite the diverse skill levels within the team, every individual made remarkable progress throughout the season, which is a testament to their collective dedication and unwavering commitment to improvement.

The team’s season was also marked by many fun events. For example, members did a Valentine’s gift exchange with the boy's team, a Secret Santa, and a hike. Another member of GVS, Elyn Tao ’27 said, “My favorite event that we did outside the squash courts is team dinner. The food was good. I really missed eating Asian Cuisine so I really appreciated how thoughtful the parents were in choosing cuisine.” For the team dinner, parents of GVS members ordered a variety of food, including Thai cuisine, Chinese cuisine, tanghulu, and boba. After that delicious meal, members of GVS also watched a slideshow full of pictures they took throughout the season, bringing back countless joyful memories. As a member of Girls Varsity Squash, my personal highlight for the season was NEPSACS. Even though it was a competition, the team managed to find moments for fun. I often reminisce about the car rides, Starbucks runs, fancy dinners, and living in a hotel with seven other teammates. The tournament offered a valuable end-of-season bonding experience for the team.

The team thanks the coaches, Johnson and Nash, for planning this season and making it such a joyful experience for everyone. The players are looking forward to the next winter season and more laughter-filled moments.
